Prayagraj (UP): On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, the first ‘Amrit Snan’ of Mahakumbh 2025 witnessed an overwhelming turnout of devotees at the sacred Triveni Sangam. Makar Sankranti, a Hindu festival symbolizing the Sun’s transition from the Southern to the Northern Hemisphere, marked the beginning of the grand celebrations.
Alka Dadwal, a devotee from Mumbai, expressed her joy in experiencing the spiritual unity of the event. “People from across the country have gathered here to celebrate the Maha Kumbh Mela. It’s a privilege to be part of this divine occasion,” she shared, also commending the government for its excellent arrangements. She added, “The police and administration have ensured a safe and organized experience. I am grateful to the Yogi government for facilitating this grand event.”
Cleanliness at the Mela was a highlight, with another devotee acknowledging the efforts made to maintain hygiene despite the large crowds.
The Sadhus from various Akhadas began their processions for the Amrit Snan, with Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara taking the first holy dips. Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Avdheshanand of Juna Akhara explained the sequence, starting with the seven Shaivite Akhadas, followed by the Vaishnavite Akhadas and others.
The Mahakumbh-2025, a Poorna Kumbh, will continue until February 26, 2025. Key bathing dates include January 14 (Makar Sankranti – First Shahi Snan), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya – Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
