Today, India lights up with the spirit of Diwali, the cherished Festival of Lights, as people across the country come together to celebrate with family and friends. Known as the triumph of good over evil, Diwali holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. Many legends surround this day: it is considered the day when Goddess Lakshmi emerged, Lord Krishna vanquished Narakasura, and Lord Rama returned victoriously to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. Observing a Diwali fast is also believed to bring prosperity and blessings.
Families celebrate this occasion by dressing in new clothes, lighting traditional clay lamps (chirats), and exchanging sweets. The glow of these lamps brings warmth and hope, symbolizing a fresh start and the dispelling of darkness. In North India, Delhi embraces Diwali with decorated homes and beautifully lit lamps. However, to address severe air quality issues, a complete ban on firecrackers has been enforced this year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt Diwali wishes to all Indians through his message on X, expressing hopes for a joyful, prosperous, and healthy life for everyone. The Prime Minister conveyed blessings from Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, wishing for a season filled with happiness and success. “Many happy wishes to the countrymen on Deepawali,” he wrote. “On this divine festival of lights, I wish everyone a healthy, happy, and prosperous life. May everyone prosper with the blessings of Maa Lakshmi and Lord Shri Ganesha.”
Diwali brings together people of all ages and backgrounds, illuminating not only homes but hearts with joy, togetherness, and blessings as they look forward to a prosperous year ahead.
