Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has introduced an exciting new offer aimed at promoting energy efficiency while clearing stock from its earlier initiatives. Under this scheme, customers can purchase two LED bulbs and get one bulb absolutely free. Additionally, KSEB will distribute free LED bulbs to Anganwadis, Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, and government hospitals, ensuring energy-efficient lighting solutions reach the underprivileged and critical public service sectors.
This initiative is part of KSEB’s efforts to dispose of surplus stock from its ‘Filament Free Kerala’ campaign. As part of this campaign, KSEB had procured 1.17 crore LED bulbs at a cost of ₹54.88 crore. While 1.15 crore units were successfully sold, over two lakh bulbs remain unsold. To mitigate potential losses, KSEB is now offering these nine-watt LED bulbs at heavily discounted rates.
Free bulbs will also be distributed to eligible groups from KSEB offices across Kerala. Furthermore, approximately 81,000 bulbs purchased under the Ujjwala scheme, which are beyond their warranty period, will be allocated to Anganwadis, government hospitals, and BPL families exempt from electricity bills.
This initiative underscores KSEB’s commitment to fostering energy savings and inclusivity, providing affordable and eco-friendly lighting to all sections of society. This initiative not only helps KSEB manage its surplus stock efficiently but also reinforces its dedication to energy conservation and sustainable practices.
