In response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened an emergency cabinet committee meeting today to assess the security situation in the region. The meeting will focus on post-attack developments and the counter-terror efforts underway.
Security forces, including the Indian Army and local police, have launched a widespread manhunt across multiple regions of Jammu & Kashmir to track down those responsible. The attack claimed the lives of 28 individuals, including Ramachandran, a tourist from Edappally, Kochi. Ramachandran was tragically gunned down in front of his daughter by attackers disguised in army uniforms. The Resistance Front, a terror outfit, has claimed responsibility for the incident.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the case and is set to visit the crime scene today. Ramachandran’s postmortem is expected to be completed within the day.
Following the attack, Prime Minister Modi curtailed his official visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to India. His return came shortly after a diplomatic meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the Al Salam Palace in Jeddah. The Crown Prince strongly condemned the attack, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, and pledged support to India, according to Indian Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other officials also returned with the Prime Minister.
