Google Maps has introduced a new feature called “flyover callout” to improve navigation for Indian users. This feature informs drivers about upcoming flyovers along their route, helping them decide whether to use the flyover or the road beneath. This update is expected to be particularly beneficial for drivers in India. Initially, the feature will be available in 40 cities across the country and will first be accessible to Android users of four-wheelers and two-wheelers. iOS CarPlay users will receive this update in a subsequent phase, according to Lalitha Ramani, General Manager of Google Maps India, who noted that there has been significant demand for this feature.
Google Maps has also expanded its database to include over 8,000 EV charging stations. This enhancement, supported by various EV charging service providers, allows users to view details about plug types and availability at these stations. Drivers can filter stations based on charger types, and two-wheeler users can find suitable charging options as well.
Additionally, Google Maps now offers metro train ticket reservations, a feature made possible through collaboration with the government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce and Namma Yathri. This service will be available to residents of Kochi and Chennai starting this week.
Another new feature provides warnings about narrow roads ahead. This will initially be available in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Indore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, and Guwahati, with iOS users needing to wait longer for access.
