Haryana Assembly Elections: High Stakes as Polling Begins Across 90 Constituencies

BJP Eyes Third Term Amidst Strong Competition from Congress and Other Contenders

New Delhi: The stage is set for the Haryana Legislative Assembly elections, with polling now underway for 90 constituencies as 2.03 crore voters prepare to make their voices heard. The elections, a crucial political battle, will see the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aiming for a third consecutive term, while the Congress seeks to capitalize on anti-incumbency sentiments and pressing local issues such as farmer protests and the recent wrestler demonstrations.

Prominent parties competing in this election include the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and alliances like Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party (JJP-ASP). With a total of 1,031 candidates vying for seats, voters will cast their ballots across 20,632 polling booths. Voting commenced at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm, with results set to be announced on October 8, in conjunction with the election results of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a significant development ahead of the elections, Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to transfer the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bhiwani district. Hooda accused the SP of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by showing favoritism towards BJP candidate JP Dalal, alleging an attempt to sway the election in BJP’s favor. Hooda’s appeal adds further tension to what is already a heated contest between the BJP and Congress for political dominance in the state.

This election is poised to be a defining moment for Haryana, with parties leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of power amidst rising political temperatures.
