New Delhi: India marks a historic moment as it celebrates the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution on Tuesday. The grand event will be held in the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan (formerly Old Parliament), where the Indian Constitution was originally approved. President Droupadi Murmu will lead the occasion with a keynote address to members of both Houses at 11 a.m., joined by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, MPs, and foreign diplomats.
The event will feature the release of a commemorative coin, a special stamp, and two books on the Constitution, including translations in Sanskrit and Maithili. A short film presentation will add to the ceremonial ambiance. Notably, the INDIA bloc members have requested that opposition leaders be allowed to speak. However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju clarified that only the President, Vice President, and Speaker will address the gathering, though opposition leaders will be seated on stage.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver an address at the Supreme Court, marking another highlight of the celebration. Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal, Justices B.R. Gavai and Suryakant, and Supreme Court Bar Council Chairman Kapil Sibal are among the dignitaries expected to attend. The occasion reflects the enduring legacy of the Indian Constitution and its pivotal role in shaping the nation’s democracy over seven and a half decades.
