India Shuts Down 32 Airports Amid Intensifying Conflict with Pakistan

Air operations suspended until May 15 as cross-border tensions rise; Nawaz Sharif urges diplomatic solutions

As the conflict between India and Pakistan escalates, India has taken a significant step by temporarily shutting down 32 airports across various states. This includes key airports in Srinagar and Amritsar, with the suspension of operations set to remain in effect until May 15. The directive came from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in response to the growing security threats, particularly in regions near the border.

The affected airports span multiple states and strategic locations, including Adampur, Ambala, Avantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jammu, Jaisalmer, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra, Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu-Manali, Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot, Sarsawa, Shimla, Thoise, and Uttarlai.

Meanwhile, ceasefire violations and gunfire exchanges are continuing across multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC), especially in Poonch, Akhnoor, and Rajouri. The Indian Army is scheduled to hold a press briefing at 10 AM at South Block, where critical updates and possible strategic announcements are expected.

Amidst these rising tensions, reports suggest that former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has advised current PM Shehbaz Sharif to pursue diplomatic measures to de-escalate the crisis. He stressed the importance of using all available diplomatic channels to restore peace between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, reinforcing the urgent need for dialogue over confrontation. The situation remains fragile, with international observers closely monitoring the developments.
