Kochi and 6 Other Airports to Launch Fast Immigration Service: Key Benefits for Flyers

Fast Track Immigration Service Set to Ease Travel for Indian Nationals and OCI Cardholders

New Delhi: In a move to enhance efficiency at major airports, the government is expanding its Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) to seven key airports across India, including Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. Initially launched at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in June, this program aims to expedite the immigration process for pre-verified Indian nationals and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders.

Expansion Across Airports
To date, over 18,400 Indian nationals and OCI cardholders have registered for the service, which is part of the Union home ministry’s broader initiative under the Modi 3.0 government. By streamlining immigration at some of India’s busiest airports, the programme aims to cut wait times and enhance passenger experiences, especially for frequent travellers. As of now, 1,500 passengers have successfully used e-gates at Delhi’s IGI Airport for quicker immigration clearance.

How Flyers Benefit
The FTI-TTP programme leverages e-gates to speed up immigration checks by reducing human intervention. Registered passengers can bypass regular queues and proceed directly through automated e-gates. This programme mirrors the US Global Entry Programme, offering quicker, smoother, and more secure immigration for eligible travellers. The programme is currently offered free of charge to Indian nationals and OCI cardholders.

Registration and Process
To enrol, travellers must apply online via the government portal and submit biometric data, including fingerprints and facial images. After approval, passengers are required to schedule a biometric verification appointment at an international airport or Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The registration remains valid for five years or until passport expiration.

Future Developments
As part of a two-phase rollout, the first phase covers Indian nationals and OCI cardholders, with plans to eventually extend the programme to foreign travellers. The government aims to introduce the service across 21 airports nationwide, aiming to create world-class immigration facilities that match global standards.
