No More Sweets as Offerings: Temple Committees Respond to Tirupati Controversy

Temples in Prayagraj Replace Traditional Sweets with Healthier Offerings Following Recent Scandals

Luchnow: In response to the recent controversy surrounding the offerings at the Tirupati temple, temples in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, have decided to eliminate sweets from their prasad offerings. This decision comes after allegations about the use of animal fat in the famous Tirupati laddu, which sparked significant public outrage. Temple committees, including those of the Sri Mankameshwar Mahadeva Temple, Alopi Shankari Devi Temple, and Bade Hanuman Temple, have announced that traditional sweets such as peda and laddu will be replaced with healthier alternatives like flowers, coconuts, fruits, dry fruits, and cardamom.

Murat Mishra, the head priest of the Lalita Devi Temple, emphasized the commitment to ensuring that offerings align with health standards. He mentioned that no sweets will be accepted as offerings until a thorough inspection of the quality of sweets available outside the temple is completed by the District Magistrate. This initiative aims to provide a safer and more suitable environment for devotees, fostering their trust in the temple’s practices.

Moreover, the head of the Bade Hanuman Temple, Mahant Balbir Giriji Maharaj, indicated plans to start preparing prasad within the temple premises once the construction of a new corridor is complete. This development seeks to enhance the overall experience for devotees while ensuring the quality of the offerings. The controversy ignited by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s remarks about the ingredients in the Tirupati laddu has prompted a broader re-evaluation of food offerings in temples, aiming to prioritize health and quality for the worshippers.
