Pak PM Confirms Indian Strike on Nur Khan Base, Calls for Renewed Peace Dialogue

Operation Sindoor Prompts Military Escalation, Ceasefire Followed by Sharif’s Plea for Bilateral Talks

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has publicly confirmed that Indian forces targeted Nur Khan Air Base and other locations in Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory military action in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people in India. Speaking at the ‘Youm-e-Tashakur’ (Day of Thanks) event held at the Pakistan Monument, Sharif recalled that Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir informed him at 2:30 am about the Indian strikes using ballistic missiles.

Sharif noted that the Pakistani military responded effectively, describing the counteraction as a “golden chapter” in the country’s defense history. He praised the armed forces and declared that Pakistan had defended its sovereignty with dignity. The clashes, which spanned from May 7 to May 10, included missile and drone exchanges between both sides and ended with a ceasefire agreement on May 10. Sharif thanked international allies—especially US President Donald Trump—for helping broker the ceasefire.

Using the platform, Sharif urged India to resume diplomatic talks, stating that the region has suffered enough from past wars. Emphasizing peace, he reiterated the importance of resolving all disputes, including Jammu and Kashmir, through peaceful means. However, India has maintained that discussions can only take place after terrorism ends and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is returned.

Earlier, Sharif paid tribute to Squadron Leader Usman Yousaf, who died in the Indian strikes, and visited wounded soldiers at Rawalpindi’s Combined Military Hospital. President Asif Ali Zardari also issued a strong message, stating that Pakistan would never compromise on its sovereignty or territorial integrity. The day’s events highlighted both the military valor and Pakistan’s desire for peaceful coexistence, even amid heightened tensions.
