On August 15, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the 78th Independence Day celebrations from the historic Red Fort in Delhi. He will unfurl the National Flag and deliver his traditional address to the nation from this iconic site. This year’s theme is ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047,’ reflecting the government’s commitment to transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
Special Guests:
To enhance public engagement, around 6,000 special guests from various sectors will attend the celebrations. These include individuals from diverse backgrounds such as youth, tribal communities, farmers, women, and other distinguished guests who have excelled through various government initiatives. Notable attendees will be beneficiaries of programs like Atal Innovation Mission, PM SHRI schools, and Mera Yuva Bharat, among others.
The event will also feature Indian Olympians, block-level representatives from the Aspirational Blocks Programme, workers from the Border Roads Organisation, and traditional attire-clad individuals from across the States/Union Territories. Additionally, 3,000 winners of online competitions hosted by the Ministry of Defence, MyGov, and Akashvani will participate.
The Ceremony:
Upon arrival at the Red Fort, PM Modi will be welcomed by key officials including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane. He will inspect a Guard of Honour composed of Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police personnel. The Navy will coordinate this year’s Guard of Honour, commanded by various officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police.
Following the inspection, PM Modi will proceed to the ramparts to unfurl the National Flag. This will be accompanied by a 21-gun salute from the 1721 Field Battery and the presentation of a Rashtriya Salute by the National Flag Guard. The Punjab Regiment Military Band will play the National Anthem during this ceremony, and flower petals will be showered from Indian Air Force helicopters.
PM Modi’s address to the nation will be followed by the singing of the National Anthem by 2,000 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and participation from 500 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers.
