The Railway Board has canceled all pending departmental selections for Group C posts that were not finalized or approved by March 4, 2025, citing widespread irregularities in the process. In a circular issued to General Managers of all railway zones, the board stated that the decision was made to revisit the selection framework due to numerous issues identified in recent selections. All pending Limited Departmental Competitive Examinations (LDCEs) and General Departmental Competitive Examinations (GDCEs) within Group C have been canceled, and no further selections will be initiated until further notice.
In a related move, the Railway Ministry has decided to centralize departmental promotion examinations by involving the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB). These exams will now be conducted through a centralized computer-based test (CBT) to ensure transparency and curb corruption. This decision comes in the wake of a major scandal involving 26 railway officials from the East Central Railway, who were arrested by the CBI for allegedly leaking exam papers. During the investigation, Rs 1.17 crore in cash was seized, highlighting the extent of malpractice.
Previously, promotional exams were conducted by individual railway divisions, but allegations of corruption and unfair practices have led to this overhaul. The Railway Ministry emphasized that the new centralized system aims to restore integrity and fairness in the recruitment and promotion processes, ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.
