Russia Not Expecting India’s Role in Ukraine Conflict, Says Russian Envoy

Denis Alipov Highlights Russia’s Openness to Peace Talks but Criticizes Europe’s Stance

Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov stated on Friday that Russia does not expect India to play a role in resolving the ongoing Ukraine conflict. Speaking at the India Today Conclave, Alipov emphasized that while Moscow values its historical ties with New Delhi, it does not seek India’s involvement in the war.

“We do not expect anything from India in this regard,” Alipov said, adding that Russia remains optimistic about the future of its relationship with India. He also indicated that Russia is open to trilateral talks to resolve the conflict but criticized the stance of European nations and Ukraine, accusing them of pursuing a “belligerent path.”

Alipov noted that the current U.S. administration has shown “the right signs” toward ending the conflict compared to its predecessors. He referenced former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim of being able to end the war, stating that Russia is prepared for peace negotiations but faces obstacles from Europe and Ukraine.

“We are winning this war, yet we are prepared for a peace deal,” Alipov said, adding that Europe’s militarization efforts and Ukraine’s demands for NATO membership are hindering progress. He also expressed Russia’s willingness to engage in a trilateral format involving the U.S. and Ukraine, despite not recognizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as legitimate.

On India-China relations, Alipov maintained a neutral stance, stating that Russia supports confidence-building measures between the two nations and is willing to assist if required. He reiterated Russia’s broader vision of global cooperation, emphasizing a desire for fair and goodwill-based international relations.

Alipov’s remarks underscore Russia’s commitment to diplomacy while highlighting the complexities of achieving peace in the Ukraine conflict.
