Prayagraj: Following the devastating stampede at the Mahakumbh festival, which resulted in the deaths of 30 individuals and left around 60 others injured, the Uttar Pradesh government has enforced strict measures to enhance public safety and prevent further mishaps.
In response to the tragedy, authorities have revoked all VVIP passes and prohibited the entry of VVIP convoys and their security escorts within the Mahakumbh premises. This decision aims to reduce congestion and improve crowd management. Only essential vehicles, such as ambulances, fire service trucks, and motorcycles, will be granted access to the festival grounds to facilitate emergency responses.
The incident, which occurred due to overwhelming crowds and inadequate crowd control, has raised serious concerns about the safety arrangements at the religious gathering. With millions of devotees expected to visit Mahakumbh, officials are now prioritizing public safety by limiting vehicular movement and restricting VIP access.
The restrictions will remain in place until February 4, ensuring that emergency services can operate without hindrance. Additionally, authorities are exploring further crowd-control measures to prevent future tragedies. The UP government has urged devotees to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to new guidelines for a safer and more organized pilgrimage experience. The Uttar Pradesh government has also intensified surveillance with additional security personnel deployed across the Mahakumbh grounds. CCTV cameras have been installed at key locations to monitor crowd movement, and barricades have been reinforced to prevent overcrowding at entry and exit points. Officials have urged devotees to follow designated pathways and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage. With these measures in place, authorities hope to prevent further tragedies and allow millions of devotees to participate in the festival without fear or disruption.
