Actor Siddique has stepped down from his role as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) following serious allegations of sexual misconduct brought forward by actress and model Revathi Sampath. Siddique announced his resignation, stating that he is voluntarily stepping down in light of the accusations. He informed AMMA’s president, Mohanlal, of his decision through an email. There are also indications that Siddique may face legal action related to the allegations.
Revathi Sampath revealed in recent television interviews that in 2016, Siddique lured her to a hotel room at the Muscot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram under the pretense of offering her a role in a Tamil film, which was to feature his son. Once there, she claims that Siddique asked her if she was willing to make certain compromises, and when she resisted, she alleges that he physically assaulted and raped her. According to Revathi, Siddique threatened her, stating that no one would believe her if she exposed the incident and that her career in the film industry would be ruined.
Revathi first disclosed the harassment in 2019 through a Facebook post, but she was met with a severe cyber attack instead of support. She further explained that her dreams of becoming a successful actress were shattered after she confided in others about the incident, with only her parents standing by her side.
Siddique had only recently taken up the position of AMMA’s general secretary, having been elected a month and a half ago as the successor to Idavela Babu. His election took place at the Annual General Meeting held at the Gokulam Convention Center in Kochi. Just days before his resignation, Siddique had released his autobiography, titled Abhinayamariyathe, in Kochi, published by Lippi Publications.
