Wayanad: In yet another tragic case of human-wildlife conflict in Kerala, a man was killed in a wild elephant attack in Wayanad’s Noolpuzha region. This marks the second fatal elephant attack in the state this week. The victim has been identified as Manu (45), a resident of Noolpuzha.
According to reports from Manorama News, Manu was returning home after purchasing groceries late on Monday night when he encountered the elephant. Upon receiving the information, forest department officials rushed to the scene to assess the situation. Local residents have expressed growing concern over the increasing frequency of elephant encounters in the region. Many have called for urgent measures to prevent such tragedies and ensure the safety of those living near forested areas.
The rising incidents of elephant attacks in Kerala highlight the ongoing struggle between human settlements and wildlife. Conservationists stress the need for better conflict mitigation strategies, including improved early warning systems, the installation of elephant-proof barriers, and more effective intervention from forest authorities.
