BSNL has officially introduced its Intranet Fiber-based Live TV (IFTV) service in Kerala, enhancing its broadband offerings with live TV, high-speed internet, and voice services. The initiative, launched in partnership with Skypro, a top Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) provider in India, is now available in the Kannur Business Area. Through this service, BSNL Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) subscribers can access over 354 live channels, including 23 Malayalam channels.
Users can conveniently stream content via the ‘Skypro’ app, downloadable from the Play Store, eliminating the need for a traditional set-top box. This move aligns with BSNL’s broader digital expansion plan, as the telecom provider has already rolled out IFTV services in states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab. The service was first introduced at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024, with Punjab being among the early adopters.
BSNL Bharat Fiber subscribers can enjoy IFTV at no extra cost, with seamless HD-quality streaming on smart TVs or older LCD/LED models using a Fire Stick. Alongside this IPTV expansion, BSNL is aggressively advancing its 4G and 5G infrastructure, with a nationwide plan to deploy 100,000 new mobile towers. Currently, over 60,000 towers are operational, and the company is set to phase out 3G services from January 15 to facilitate the 4G transition.
In Kerala, BSNL caters to a vast user base of one crore customers. Recent infrastructure developments in the state include the installation of 24 new mobile towers in Kannur and 31 in Kasaragod, with three additional towers under renovation. Additionally, BSNL aims to connect 3,000 telephone users with fiber-based services before the monsoon season, further reinforcing Kerala’s digital connectivity.
