New Delhi: Actor Siddique’s anticipatory bail plea in a molestation case will be a significant focus at the Supreme Court on Monday. The case is set to be reviewed by a two-judge bench, including the well-known woman judge, Justice Bela Madhurya Trivedi, and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma. Justice Trivedi is recognized for her strong approach in high-profile cases, adding further weight to this hearing. The matter is listed 62nd on the court’s docket.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi is leading Siddique’s defense, with the plea being filed by his daughter, Ranjeeta Rohatgi. Meanwhile, Aishwarya Bhati, Additional Solicitor General and Senior Advocate, will represent the state government. Initially, former Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar was expected to take on this role, but the government ultimately opted for a woman lawyer to handle the sensitive case. The state is pushing for the dismissal of the petition without even issuing a notice.
Vrinda Grover, a renowned Senior Advocate, will appear on behalf of the victim, joined by social activists like Paichira Nawaz and Ajeesh Kalam, who have also filed petitions. The Special Investigation Team, led by SP Merin Joseph, will present the case’s details in court.
The FIR, lodged in 2024, pertains to an alleged incident of molestation that occurred eight years ago in 2016.
