Four individuals, including three men and a woman, were rescued after becoming stranded in the middle of the Chittoor River while bathing. The water level rose rapidly following the opening of the Moolathara Regulator, leaving the group trapped on a rock.
Upon learning of the incident, the police and fire brigade quickly arrived and initiated rescue operations. The rescue team, battling strong undercurrents, used ropes and life jackets to safely bring the four back to shore.
Minister K Krishnankutty was present at the scene to coordinate the efforts. The health condition of the rescued individuals, who are from Tamil Nadu, is reported to be satisfactory.
The spot is a common area for bathing and washing clothes, where the water level was initially normal. The sudden rise in water level occurred after the dam’s shutters were opened, prompting the group to seek higher ground in the middle of the river before being rescued.
