Thrissur: Guruvayur Temple, renowned for its religious significance and grand ceremonies, has witnessed an impressive surge in revenue for September 2024, amassing nearly Rs 6 crore. The temple’s treasure count, which concluded recently, revealed a total collection of Rs 58,081,109 in cash offerings. Additionally, the temple received 2.6 kg of gold and 17.7 kg of silver as part of devotees’ contributions.
This milestone follows the temple’s record-breaking day on September 8, when 351 weddings were conducted within the temple premises. The weddings began as early as 4 a.m. and continued until late afternoon, marking it as one of the most auspicious days in the Malayalam month of Chingam. This day, considered highly favorable for weddings, drew a massive number of couples seeking the temple’s blessings.
Apart from cash and precious metal offerings, interestingly, the temple also received several old, demonetized currencies, including 29 of the discontinued Rs 2000 notes, 13 of the banned Rs 1000 notes, and 114 Rs 500 notes. The temple’s e-Bhandaram system, an electronic donation box, saw collections of Rs 5.39 lakh through East Nada and Rs 34,146 through West Nada.
With the festival of Thiruvonam approaching, the Devaswom authorities have extended darshan timings to accommodate the influx of devotees. Preparations for key temple events like the Uthrada Kazhchakkula Samarpanam, Guruvayurappan Onapudava dedication, and Kazhcha Shiveli are in full swing, adding to the festive spirit.
