Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert across several districts in Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Idukki, forecasting heavy rainfall until November 2. The IMD predicts rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, with thunderstorms expected in most areas of the state. In addition to heavy rain, squally conditions with wind speeds of 35 to 45 km/h and gusts up to 55 km/h are likely along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coastline through Sunday. Consequently, authorities have advised fishermen against venturing into the sea due to the adverse weather.
The potential impacts of the intense rainfall include reduced visibility, possible traffic disruptions due to waterlogging and fallen trees, power outages, and crop damage. The risk of landslides, mudslides, and landslips is also heightened, especially in hilly areas.
