Heavy Rain Causes Flash Flooding in Kottayam: Impact on Mundakayam and Kanjirapally

Heavy rainfall in Kottayam has resulted in severe flash flooding, particularly impacting Mundakayam and Kanjirapally. The rising water levels in the Manimala River caused flooding on the bypass road overnight, and there have been reports of landslides in the Koottickal and Kavali areas. In Kanjirapally, water from Chittarpuzha has inundated Manimala Road, rendering it impassable for small vehicles. While water levels have started to recede by morning, areas such as Anchilippa and 26th Mile Changalappalam remain waterlogged. In Edakkunnam, overflowing canals have led to water entering residential yards.

The heavy rain persisted throughout the night but has eased somewhat this morning. Although no major damage has been reported yet, the community is dealing with the aftermath of significant water accumulation and localized flooding. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to address any further issues that may arise.
