The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Kerala over the next five days, prompting a yellow alert in several districts. In the next three hours, Kerala is expected to experience moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, with speeds reaching up to 40 km per hour.
Due to a low-pressure system over the Central East Arabian Sea, the districts of Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad are under special watch. IMD has warned that the rain is likely to persist over the coming days, with yellow alerts already announced for various districts. Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki have been placed under yellow alert for today. For tomorrow, both Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki are on alert, while Pathanamthitta and Idukki will remain on high watch through Monday. On Tuesday, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki will once again see weather warnings in place.
Additionally, the National Oceanographic Research Center has issued an orange alert for all coastal districts in Kerala, warning of the Kallakadal phenomenon—a coastal flooding event that could significantly impact low-lying areas. Residents of these districts are advised to remain cautious and prepared for potential disruptions due to the weather conditions. Coastal communities are urged to stay vigilant as the combination of heavy rainfall and the Kallakadal phenomenon could result in waterlogging and localized flooding. Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea during this period due to rough waters and high tidal waves. In light of these warnings, residents in vulnerable areas should take necessary precautions, including securing their homes and staying updated on official alerts. The state government, in coordination with disaster management teams, is closely monitoring the situation to ensure swift action in case of emergencies.
