Thiruvananthapuram: The monsoon rains have intensified once again in Kerala, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a Yellow Alert for eight districts. These districts include Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The alert, which is in effect until September 4, indicates the likelihood of heavy rainfall in these regions during the first week of September.
The forecast suggests that the rains will continue to lash Kerala in the coming days, influenced by various weather systems. One such system is Cyclone Asna, currently located over the North East Arabian Sea near the Pakistan coast. While the cyclone is moving away, it is expected to weaken into a low-pressure system by morning, potentially affecting the weather patterns in Kerala.
Additionally, the strengthening of an extreme low-pressure area over South Odisha and South Chhattisgarh is likely to contribute to widespread rainfall across the state. As a precautionary measure, the fishing ban along the Kerala-Karnataka coast remains in effect, ensuring the safety of fishermen during this period of turbulent weather.
Authorities have urged residents in the affected districts to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from potential flooding and other rain-related hazards.
