As the search for Arjun, who went missing after the landslide in Shiroor, continues into its eighth day, rescuers have found the body of a woman who also went missing in the disaster. Her body was discovered in the Gangavali river. In total, four individuals, including Arjun, are still unaccounted for following the landslide.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) provided satellite images of the area where Arjun went missing, but the visuals, taken at 6 am on the day of the landslide, showed no trace of him or his lorry. Recent searches, aided by a Deep Search Detector, detected signals in certain areas but did not yield any results. The army suspects that Arjun and his lorry might have been swept into the river. Today, rescue operations will intensify in the Gangavali River after detecting a signal 40 meters off the shore. The navy will lead the rescue efforts, with scuba divers initially inspecting the river dunes followed by examinations of the river bottom. However, intermittent rains may challenge the mission.
The search faced a brief setback on the seventh day due to a dispute between Malayali rescue workers and Karnataka police. The conflict arose when the police restricted the number of Malayali rescuers to 20, citing heavy rainfall and the risk of further landslides. The situation was resolved after discussions with the Superintendent of Police, allowing the rescue operations to proceed without further interruptions.
