Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has approved an additional allocation of ₹211 crore for local self-government institutions, bringing the total funding for the current fiscal year to ₹10,011 crore. This increase, under the General Purpose Fund, is aimed at supporting three-tier panchayats, municipalities, and corporations in addressing public needs and executing developmental initiatives.
Finance Minister K N Balagopal detailed the fund’s distribution, stating that ₹150 crore will go to grama panchayats, ₹10 crore to block panchayats, and ₹7 crore to district panchayats. Additionally, municipalities and corporations will receive ₹26 crore and ₹28 crore, respectively.
Despite financial constraints exacerbated by central government policies, the state government remains steadfast in its commitment to providing the promised allocations to local bodies. “These funds are crucial for addressing the developmental and public needs of local self-governing institutions,” the minister emphasized in his statement.
