Kerala is grappling with a significant fever outbreak, prompting a high alert from the health department due to the rapid spread of communicable diseases. In the past 24 hours, 13,756 people have sought treatment in various hospitals for fever-related illnesses.
The Health Department reports 225 dengue fever cases, including one death during treatment. Additionally, two people have died from Rat bite fever (streptobacillosis), with 20 others undergoing treatment. There were 37 new H1N1 cases confirmed yesterday.
Cholera has been confirmed in two inmates of an orphanage in Neyyanttinkara, bringing the total number of cholera patients to four. Cases have been reported in Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram, though the source of the infection remains unidentified.
The health department advises the public to exercise caution and drink only boiled water to prevent further infections.
