Kerala Government Enforces Strict Rules for Overnight Stay at Medical Colleges

The Kerala government has issued a new directive prohibiting anyone from staying overnight on medical college premises without a valid pass, except for patients, their attendants, or staff members. Those found violating this rule will be detained.

This decision was made during a meeting led by Health Minister Veena George, aiming to improve safety at medical colleges. The measures include an increased police presence during nighttime, installation of CCTV cameras in critical areas, and a crackdown on illegal activities within hospital grounds.

The regulations permit only two attendants in the casualty department and one in the wards. A dedicated briefing room will be set up to keep attendants informed about the patient’s condition. Additional steps will be taken to ensure the safety of female employees returning to hostels after night shifts, including assigning uniform numbers for easier identification.
