Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is expected to see heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts today. Strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h, along with thunderstorms, are also forecast across various parts of the state until October 25.
This weather pattern is driven by the formation of a low-pressure system over the central eastern Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. The system is projected to intensify into a deep depression by this morning and is expected to evolve into a cyclone by Wednesday. The cyclone is likely to move toward the Odisha-West Bengal coastline by October 24.
In the Arabian Sea, another low-pressure area has developed in the central-western region, but it is predicted to drift away from the Indian coast. Alongside, a cyclonic circulation is influencing the Karnataka coast in the central eastern Arabian Sea, while another circulation is observed over Tamil Nadu. These systems are likely to contribute to light to moderate rainfall across Kerala, with some areas witnessing thunderstorms throughout the week. The IMD also anticipates heavier rainfall in certain regions on October 23.
This confluence of cyclonic circulations and low-pressure areas signals a wet spell for Kerala, with heightened weather activity in the coming days.
