This system is expected to move northwest and approach the Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coast within two days, bringing heavy rainfall to Kerala.
As a precaution, a yellow alert has been issued for eight districts in Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram. This alert, which is in place until November 28, signals the likelihood of significant rainfall in these areas.
The alert will extend to additional districts on subsequent days. For Wednesday, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram will remain under yellow alert. On Thursday, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram will continue to experience the cautionary warning due to persistent weather conditions.
In Sabarimala, where the pilgrimage season is in full swing, weather forecasts predict rainfall throughout Tuesday. Key areas, including Sannidhanam, Pampa, and Nilakkal, are likely to see thunderstorms and rain during the afternoon hours, potentially affecting pilgrims’ activities.
Authorities have advised people in the affected districts to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and to stay updated with weather alerts. Pilgrims visiting Sabarimala are urged to carry protective gear like umbrellas and raincoats and follow the guidance of local officials to ensure safety during the pilgrimage. Emergency services are on standby, and residents are encouraged to report any incidents promptly to minimize risks during this spell of intense rainfall.
