A tragic incident unfolded in Kottayam, Kerala, as a police officer lost his life following a violent altercation with a repeat offender. The deceased, Shyam Prasad, who worked as a driver at the Kottayam West Police Station, was attacked by a man named Jibin (27) during a confrontation at a restaurant in Ettumanoor.
According to reports, Jibin was causing a disturbance inside the restaurant late at night when Shyam intervened to defuse the situation. However, the accused turned violent and physically assaulted the officer multiple times. The grievously injured Shyam was quickly rushed to a nearby private hospital around 2 am for emergency medical attention. Despite doctors’ efforts, he succumbed to his injuries by 4 am.
Following the incident, the Ettumanoor police reached the scene and arrested Jibin, who is now in custody and undergoing interrogation. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack and gathering evidence to proceed with legal action.
After completing inquest formalities, Shyam Prasad’s body has been shifted to Kottayam Medical College for post-mortem. The mortal remains will later be handed over to his grieving family. The incident has sparked outrage among law enforcement officials and the public, raising concerns about the increasing violence against police personnel in the line of duty.
