KSEB Revolutionizes Bill Payments with QR Codes and Enhanced Services

Scan-to-Pay QR Codes and Customer-Centric Initiatives to Simplify Payment Processes

Thiruvananthapuram: In a move to enhance consumer convenience, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is set to implement QR codes on electricity bills, enabling faster and more efficient payments. By scanning the QR code on the bill, users can instantly access their billing information and complete payments securely, streamlining the process significantly. This innovation is expected to be rolled out in the coming months, aligning with KSEB’s broader efforts to improve customer satisfaction.

Additionally, KSEB is exploring the idea of introducing permanent QR codes for homes and institutions. These codes, affixed at fixed locations, will allow users to access their electricity bill details for any billing period, ensuring seamless transactions.

As part of its pilot project initiated in October, KSEB has already introduced POS machines at select locations like Vellayambalam and Ulloor in Thiruvananthapuram. These machines support payments via cards and QR codes, further expanding payment options for consumers.

Despite these advancements, KSEB faces financial challenges, with a monthly revenue of ₹1,750 crore against an expenditure of ₹1,950 crore, leading to a deficit of ₹200 crore. To address operational inefficiencies, KSEB plans to establish customer care centres and call centre services to enhance consumer interaction and resolve grievances promptly.

These initiatives signify a significant step towards improving both consumer experience and the financial sustainability of the organization. With upgraded IT infrastructure and a focus on innovation, KSEB aims to redefine utility services in Kerala.
