KSRTC to Launch Door-to-Door Courier Service, Targeting Double Profits

New home delivery service aims to revolutionize KSRTC’s courier operations, with an ambitious goal to boost daily revenue to ₹5 lakh

Kochi: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is set to roll out a home delivery courier service, aiming to significantly enhance its logistics operations and double its current profits. The initiative, expected to commence this year, will cater to both urban and rural areas, with delivery charges determined by both the distance and weight of the items. KSRTC is positioning the service as a cost-effective alternative to other private courier companies, offering broader accessibility, particularly in remote villages where traditional courier services may not reach.

The new service will streamline the courier process by employing delivery staff to collect packages directly from customers’ homes and transport them to KSRTC depots for dispatch. There is also consideration of hiring contract workers to handle the home delivery tasks. This marks a significant upgrade from KSRTC’s existing courier system, where customers must visit the depots to collect their parcels.

Currently, KSRTC operates a courier service between Kerala and Bengaluru, though operational challenges with the Karnataka RTC have slowed progress. Despite these setbacks, KSRTC’s logistics service generates approximately ₹2-2.5 lakh daily. The organization aims to ramp up daily earnings to ₹5 lakh through this new venture, with a projected logistics income of ₹50 lakh by the end of this month.

The KSRTC’s latest push into logistics is part of its broader effort to diversify revenue streams. The organization hopes that leveraging its extensive transport network will provide a competitive edge in the courier market while ensuring affordable service for its customers.
