Nipah Virus: 8 Contacts Test Negative, Woman’s Condition Remains Critical

The health department continues to monitor the situation; 25 negative test results from the contact list; woman's condition remains serious.

In a relief for the authorities, 8 more individuals from the contact list of the Nipah virus-infected woman in Vallanchery, Malappuram, have tested negative for the virus. With this, the total number of negative test results has reached 25. However, the woman, a 42-year-old from Vallanchery, continues to be in critical condition as she undergoes treatment.

The state’s health minister, Veena George, had previously disclosed that the contact list included 94 individuals who have been closely monitored. The woman initially sought medical attention with symptoms of fever and cough and was later diagnosed with Nipah.

The health department traced the patient’s route map, which reveals that the woman first experienced fever on April 25. She visited a clinic in Vallanchery on April 26, and her symptoms continued on April 27. On April 28, she was placed under observation at the Block Family Health Center in Vallanchery. She continued her visits to local clinics and labs until April 30, when she eventually sought treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna.

The health department is maintaining strict vigilance, and additional tests are ongoing as part of their efforts to control the spread of the virus. Preventive measures and contact tracing efforts are progressing rapidly, with health authorities maintaining a high level of alert. The public has been urged to strictly follow health and safety guidelines to curb the potential spread of the Nipah virus. Officials have advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, or fatigue to report to the nearest health center immediately for evaluation and care.
