Kerala actor Nivin Pauly, along with five others, has been charged by the Kerala Police in connection with a gang rape case. The charges, which were filed following a survivor’s statement to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), include severe offenses such as gang rape, voyeurism, and wrongful confinement. The case was registered at the Oonnukal police station, with the First Information Report citing several IPC sections, including 354 (assault), 376D (gang rape), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Pauly, identified as the sixth accused, is joined by Shreya, film producer AK Sunil, and others in facing these allegations. According to the complainant, the accused lured her with promises of a film role, and the alleged assault occurred in Dubai last year.
Nivin Pauly has firmly denied the allegations, calling them “baseless” and stating his commitment to proving his innocence. He expressed his resolve to take all necessary legal steps to counter the accusations and urged media outlets to verify information before publishing. Pauly also suggested there might be a conspiracy behind the allegations and emphasized his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
The case has emerged amid a series of high-profile sexual harassment accusations in the Malayalam film industry following the release of the Hema Committee report. This report, which details harassment and exploitation in the industry, has led to multiple charges against prominent figures, including filmmaker Ranjith and actors Mukesh, Edavela Babu, Baburaj, Jayasurya, and Siddique.
The complainant, who works as a nurse in Dubai, has reiterated her stance, claiming she was subjected to severe abuse and threats by Pauly and his associates. She also alleged that her initial complaint was poorly handled by the local police and that a smear campaign had been waged against her and her family on social media.
The case highlights ongoing issues within the Malayalam film industry and reflects broader concerns about handling sexual harassment allegations and the influence of powerful figures.
