New Delhi: In a bid to raise awareness about obesity and promote a healthier lifestyle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has nominated Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, along with nine other prominent personalities, to be part of a nationwide campaign. The initiative focuses on reducing excessive oil consumption in daily diets and encouraging fitness.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi announced the names of 10 influential figures who will help amplify the message. Along with Mohanlal, the list includes Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, business tycoon Anand Mahindra, Bhojpuri singer-actor Nirahua, shooting champion Manu Bhaker, Olympic weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, Bollywood actor R Madhavan, singer Shreya Ghoshal, and philanthropist and MP Sudha Murty.
PM Modi urged these nominees to further extend the challenge by nominating 10 more individuals each, thereby creating a widespread movement against obesity.
Call to Reduce Oil Consumption
The campaign stems from Modi’s recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, where he highlighted the rising health concerns due to excessive oil intake. He encouraged people to cut their oil consumption by 10% and pass on the challenge to others to create a ripple effect across the country.
Obesity has become a major public health issue in India, with increasing cases of lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes and heart conditions. Through this initiative, the government aims to promote a culture of mindful eating and healthier dietary habits.
