The Kerala Hydel Tourism Center (KHTC), managed by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), has reported substantial earnings from its boat services at various KSEB dams, offering tourists stunning vistas and memorable experiences.
In the financial year 2022-2023, KHTC turned around its financial performance, achieving a profit of Rs 8.63 crore, a significant improvement from a loss of Rs 1.64 crore in the previous year. The revenue continued to rise, reaching Rs 7.97 crore in 2023-2024.
Currently, KHTC operates 13 centers across diverse locations, including Kakkayam Dam, Adyanpara in Malappuram, Idukki Dam, Munnar Hydel Park, Munnar Ecopoint, Chenkulam Dam, Anayirangal Dam, Kundala Dam, Sun Moon Valley Mattupetty, and Banasura Sagar Dam. Among these, Banasura Sagar Dam in Wayanad stands out as the highest revenue generator.
Future plans include introducing hydroelectric tourism at Vadakkepuzha in Idukki district. These centers have become popular tourist destinations, offering serene views and immersive experiences amidst Kerala’s natural beauty.
