Shirur: The search operation for Kozhikode native Arjun and two others, who went missing following a devastating landslide in Karnataka’s Ankola, is set to resume today. A dredger, transported from Goa, will be deployed at the search site near the Gangavali River by 8:00 am, focusing on locations identified by the Navy. This marks a critical step in clearing the debris of soil and stones caused by the landslide.
The dredging machine, which arrived in Karwar on Wednesday, was delayed in reaching the river due to high tide. The private Karwar-based agency managing the dredging operation charged Rs 96 lakhs for the task, with the district disaster management authority contributing Rs 50 lakhs and the Karnataka government covering the balance.
The search has faced numerous challenges, including adverse weather conditions and strong river currents, which hampered previous attempts. Arjun has been missing since July 16, when a massive landslide on National Highway 66 near Shirur buried the truck he was driving, which was loaded with wood. Despite extensive search efforts, including the use of advanced devices, the Uttara Kannada district authority has reported no signs of human presence so far.
The search for Arjun and the other missing individuals in the aftermath of the Ankola landslide continues to face significant challenges, including difficult weather conditions and river currents. However, with the arrival of the dredger and the collaborative efforts of local authorities, the Navy, and disaster management teams, there is renewed hope of recovering the victims.
