Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, operated by the Adani Group, experienced a significant increase in passenger traffic during the Onam season. Between September 1 and 17, the airport saw 2.36 lakh passengers, reflecting a 14% rise compared to last year’s 2.07 lakh during the same period. The breakdown shows 1.23 lakh domestic passengers and 1.12 lakh international travellers. To handle the Onam rush, additional staff were brought in, and the airport hosted a 10-day Onam festival and shopping event, ‘Awesome Onam,’ for both passengers and staff.
In the first quarter of the 2024-25 financial year, the airport continued to record impressive growth in both passenger traffic and air traffic movements (ATM). A total of 12.6 lakh passengers passed through the airport between April and June, surpassing last year’s first-quarter figure of 10.36 lakh by over 2 lakh passengers. Of this, 6.61 lakh were domestic travellers, and 5.98 lakh were international.
Additionally, the airport registered 7,954 air traffic movements in the first quarter, a 14% increase from 6,887 the previous year. Sharjah was the leading international destination, while Bengaluru topped the list of domestic destinations for passengers flying from Thiruvananthapuram Airport.
