Thamarassery: A tiger sighting has raised concerns among travelers and locals on the Thamarassery Ghat road in Wayanad. On Monday evening, a car traveler reported spotting a tiger between the eighth and ninth curves of the Ghat road. The incident occurred around 7 p.m., leading to immediate action by the forest department.
Jim Mathew, who was returning to Kozhikode from Wayanad, claimed the tiger leapt in front of his car before disappearing into the dense forest. Alarmed by the encounter, Mathew promptly informed the police and forest department officials. Another biker who had passed the same stretch earlier corroborated the sighting, further increasing the urgency of the situation.
Forest department officials quickly arrived at the location and set up a camp to monitor the area. Although the sighting has sparked fears, officials are still investigating to confirm if the animal seen was indeed a tiger or another species.
The Thamarassery Ghat road, known for its dense vegetation and wildlife, has previously been associated with animal sightings, but a tiger encounter this close to human activity is rare. Authorities have urged travelers to exercise caution while driving through the area, especially during nighttime hours. The search operation continues as forest officials aim to locate and ensure the safety of both the tiger and the public.
