Thiruvananthapuram: Abdul Rahim, the father of Afan (23), the primary accused in the gruesome Venjaramoodu murders, arrived at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Friday morning at around 7:45 AM. Rahim had been stuck in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, for an extended period due to legal complications related to unpaid debts and visa issues. Following the intervention of social workers, his travel documents were cleared, allowing him to return to Kerala.
Rahim had faced financial distress after his business in the Gulf suffered significant losses amounting to ₹15 lakh. He clarified that while he was personally responsible for the debt, his family had no involvement in the financial liabilities. He also addressed speculations about family discord, stating that while he had occasional disagreements with his wife over the matter, there were no serious conflicts between them.
The shocking murder case, which unfolded on February 24, saw Afan embark on a brutal killing spree over six hours, claiming the lives of five people. The victims included his grandmother Salma Beevi, uncle Latheef, aunt Sajitha, younger brother Afsan, and girlfriend Farsana. His mother, Shemi, was also attacked but managed to survive and is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Rahim’s return to Kerala comes amid an ongoing investigation into the horrifying crime, which has shaken the local community. Authorities continue to probe the motive behind the killings, while forensic and psychological evaluations of Afan are underway. The case has drawn widespread attention, with many questioning the possible triggers that led to such a violent outburst.
