Kollam: The functioning of the Kerala state government came under sharp criticism during the CPM district conference held in Kollam. Delegates raised concerns over several issues, including ministerial decisions and the Chief Minister’s handling of the Home Department. Delegates from Anchalummoodu criticized the decision to remove seasoned leaders from key ministerial positions, claiming it has adversely impacted the government’s image and effectiveness.
The Home Department, overseen by the Chief Minister, was also scrutinized, with the delegation from Kadakkal citing the Kilikkollur case to highlight police inefficiencies. Responding to these allegations, CPM district secretary S Sudevan argued that isolated incidents at certain police stations should not define the department’s overall performance.
Additionally, questions were raised about whether the Chief Minister, in his dual role as a Politburo member, could adequately fulfill his responsibilities. Delegates suggested that a cabinet blending experienced ministers from the previous term with fresh faces might have avoided many current challenges.
The conference also addressed internal party conflicts, with the Karunagappally area committee’s unresolved factional issues drawing criticism. Delegates emphasized the need for stronger leadership and better conflict resolution strategies to ensure unity within the party at the district level.
The discussions reflect growing discontent among party members, signaling the need for introspection and corrective measures within the CPM’s state leadership.
