The Palakkad District Congress Committee (DCC) leadership has rejected the authenticity of a letter that surfaced recently, proposing Congress MP K Muraleedharan as the candidate for the forthcoming Palakkad Assembly bypoll. This letter, allegedly from DCC President A Thankappan, recommended Muraleedharan as the “most suitable” choice for the position. However, Thankappan clarified that the circulating document is not genuine, asserting that his signature is absent from the letter. He explained that while the DCC has indeed communicated with the central leadership on various issues, including candidate selection, any final decisions rest with Congress’s central leaders.
Several DCC office-bearers have also come forward, expressing that they were unaware of any formal letter proposing Muraleedharan’s name. The alleged letter, which claims unanimous DCC support for Muraleedharan to secure the Palakkad seat and to provide a strong challenge against the BJP, has now been dismissed by local leadership as unfounded. The incident has stirred local Congress circles, prompting discussions on the authenticity of internal communications and the proper candidate selection process.
As the bypoll approaches, this controversy has highlighted internal dynamics within the Congress party and the importance of transparency in candidate endorsement. The DCC leadership has emphasized that any official candidate selection will be announced by the central Congress leadership, reaffirming that the decision-making process is yet to be concluded.
