Priyanka Gandhi to Be Sworn in as Wayanad MP After Resounding By-election Victory

Focus on Development and Welfare as Priyanka Prepares to Meet Constituents

Wayanad: Priyanka Gandhi, the Congress leader, is set to take oath as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wayanad parliamentary constituency on Thursday at 11 am. Following her swearing-in, she plans to visit Wayanad on November 30 and December 1 to connect with her constituents. She will be accompanied by her brother Rahul Gandhi, the former Wayanad MP, during this tour.

On Wednesday, local Congress leaders officially handed over the election certificate to Priyanka Gandhi and extended their best wishes. Expressing gratitude, she acknowledged the overwhelming support and trust of Wayanad’s voters. Priyanka also commended the tireless efforts of Congress leaders and workers during the election campaign.

During discussions with party leaders, she emphasized the importance of addressing local issues and fostering collective efforts for the constituency’s development and welfare.

Priyanka secured a significant win in the by-election, defeating CPM-led LDF candidate Sathyan Mokeri by a margin of over 4.1 lakh votes. She received 6,22,338 votes, slightly fewer than the 6,47,445 votes her brother Rahul garnered in the April Lok Sabha elections. However, her victory margin of 4,10,931 votes surpassed Rahul’s lead of 3,64,422 votes, despite lower voter turnout in the bypoll. Priyanka’s victory underscores the Congress’s continued stronghold in Wayanad.

This victory marks Priyanka Gandhi’s significant entry into parliamentary politics, symbolizing her growing role within the Congress party. Her focus on addressing local concerns and fostering development in Wayanad reflects the party’s commitment to grassroots engagement. As she steps into this leadership role, Priyanka’s emphasis on collaborative efforts with the community and Congress leaders signals a proactive approach to ensuring the constituency’s welfare. Her upcoming visit is expected to strengthen the bond with her supporters and outline her vision for Wayanad’s future.
