Independent MLA PV Anvar has initiated a significant political move by seeking a meeting with senior Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders regarding the possibility of joining the United Democratic Front (UDF). His request comes in the wake of recent statements from Congress leaders, who indicated that the inclusion of the TMC (Trinamool Congress) in the UDF will be deliberated within the alliance. This appears to have prompted Anvar’s request for an audience with IUML leaders PK Kunhalikutty and Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal. However, the meeting did not materialize due to their prior engagements.
Meanwhile, as the Nilambur by-election approaches, Malappuram District Congress Committee (DCC) General Secretary Adv. Beena Joseph has emphasized the importance of considering female candidates. She highlighted that without opportunities, women can’t prove their capabilities, and asserted her close alignment with secular principles. She also expressed confidence in her ability to secure votes across diverse communities.
Interestingly, sources suggest that there was already a consensus within the Congress to collaborate with PV Anvar for the Nilambur bypoll, though a formal decision on his UDF entry remains pending. Yesterday, Anvar held talks with Congress leaders VD Satheesan, K Sudhakaran, and Ramesh Chennithala, where he reportedly put forward proposals. The discussions lasted over an hour, with both sides expressing their respective stands. Follow-up talks are expected, especially in the context of the bypoll, while a final decision on Anvar’s formal alliance with the UDF will be subject to broader internal discussions.
