Uruguay pressed for an equalizer in the second half, with Colombia goalkeeper Federico Valverde making a crucial save in the 68th minute and Luis Suárez hitting the post in the 71st minute.
Colombia had chances to extend their lead late in the game, with Mateus Uribe’s stoppage-time shot hitting the crossbar. The match was played in challenging conditions, with temperatures reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit on a recently converted grass surface.
