In a spectacular IPL performance, Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill and opening batsman Sai Sudharsan delivered a masterclass in chasing, dismantling a target of 200 runs with ease to secure their spot in the playoffs. The duo guided Gujarat to a flawless 10-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals, finishing at 205 without losing a wicket, with six balls to spare on Sunday.
Sudharsan played an exceptional innings, scoring an unbeaten 108 runs that featured 12 boundaries and four sixes, including the match-winning hit. Gill complemented him with a strong 93 not out, smashing seven sixes and three fours, showcasing immense power hitting and skill throughout the chase. Their partnership effectively nullified Delhi’s efforts, which included a brilliant century by KL Rahul, who scored 112 runs off 65 balls, peppering the innings with 14 fours and four sixes.
Despite Rahul’s heroics propelling Delhi to 199 for three, Gujarat’s openers quickly took control. They raced to 31 runs in just two overs, with Sudharsan particularly targeting Delhi’s bowling, including an expensive over from T Natarajan that yielded 20 runs. Although bowlers like Mustafizur Rahman and Dushmantha Chameera attempted to slow the momentum, the Gujarat pair maintained their dominance. Even the spin attack led by Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav couldn’t halt Sudharsan’s flow.
By the 15th over, Gujarat had already posted a formidable 154 runs, eventually cruising to victory in the 19th over. This win also confirmed playoff berths for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings, while Delhi Capitals face an uphill battle, needing to win their remaining matches and depend on favorable outcomes elsewhere to qualify for the knockouts.
