Mumbai Indians Knock Out Gujarat Titans to Seal Qualifier 2 Spot

Rohit Sharma stars with 81 as Mumbai beat Gujarat by 20 runs; will now face Punjab Kings for a place in the IPL 2025 final

Mumbai Indians continued their strong playoff form by defeating Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the IPL 2025 Eliminator held at Mullanpur on Friday. With this win, Mumbai advances to Qualifier 2, where they will take on Punjab Kings for a place in the final. Royal Challengers Bengaluru await the winner of that clash in the summit battle scheduled for June 3 in Ahmedabad.

Batting first, Mumbai posted an imposing total of 228/5, thanks to a blistering 81 off 50 balls from captain Rohit Sharma. His innings included classic strokes and aggressive intent. He was well-supported by opener Jonny Bairstow, who smashed 47 off just 22 deliveries. Suryakumar Yadav (33), Tilak Varma (25), and skipper Hardik Pandya (22* off 10) added vital runs to set a steep target. For Gujarat, Prasidh Krishna and R Sai Kishore picked up two wickets each.

In response, Gujarat Titans showed promise with a strong partnership between B Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar. Sudharsan scored a brilliant 80 off 49 balls, while Sundar added 48 from 24 balls. Their 84-run third-wicket stand brought Gujarat close to the target. However, once Sudharsan was bowled by Richard Gleeson in the 16th over, Gujarat lost momentum. Jasprit Bumrah’s tight spell (1/27) helped Mumbai seal the win as Gujarat finished at 208/6.

Mumbai Indians now gear up for a high-stakes clash against Punjab Kings on Sunday in Qualifier 2.
