Nicholas Pooran delivered a breathtaking performance in IPL 2025, smashing the fastest half-century of the season in just 18 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His explosive batting display left SRH bowlers struggling to find an answer as he dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground.
Despite SRH skipper Pat Cummins’ efforts to contain Pooran, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter made a mockery of their bowling attack. Ironically, Cummins, known for his aggressive gameplay, had to watch his own tactics being used against his team. While SRH batters have been dominant throughout the tournament, frequently posting scores above 250, Pooran’s innings turned the tables in LSG’s favor.
Pooran eventually fell to Cummins after scoring a spectacular 70 runs off just 26 balls, including six fours and six sixes. However, by the time he walked back to the pavilion, he had already put LSG in a commanding position. His ability to accelerate the innings and maintain an attacking mindset once again showcased why he is one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the world.
This is not the first time the West Indies star has achieved such a feat. In the IPL 2023 season, Pooran scored a 15-ball half-century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), proving his consistency as a power-hitter.
Interestingly, Pat Cummins himself holds the joint record for the second-fastest fifty in IPL history, having reached the milestone in 14 balls against Mumbai Indians while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He shares this record with KL Rahul, another prolific IPL batsman.
However, the record for the fastest IPL fifty remains with Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal, who stunned the cricketing world by scoring a 13-ball half-century against KKR in IPL 2023.
Pooran’s innings against SRH has once again cemented his reputation as a game-changer, making him a key player to watch as the IPL 2025 season unfolds.
